Ever.\u2019 It broke everybody up, and the movie became my biggest hit.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"scroll-mt-24 my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\">5. Landis also thought Ameche was dead.<\/h2>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\">Ray Milland (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalfloss.com\/article\/508197\/11-thrilling-facts-about-dial-m-murder\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"PR\" data-uw-original-href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalfloss.com\/article\/508197\/11-thrilling-facts-about-dial-m-murder\" aria-label=\"Dial M for Murder\" data-uw-rm-empty-ctrl=\"\"><em>Dial M for Murder<\/em><\/a>) was originally cast as Mortimer, but he didn\u2019t pass the insurance physical. When Landis asked for Don Ameche, he was informed that he had not made a movie in 13 years and he couldn\u2019t be found. \u201cThe horrible question was asked, \u2018Did he die?\u2019\u201d Landis recalled. Ameche was later found, and held off on agreeing to return to movies until he was paid what Milland had been promised. Two years after\u00a0<em>Trading Places<\/em>, Ameche starred in\u00a0<em>Cocoon<\/em>\u00a0(1985) and won an Oscar for his efforts.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"scroll-mt-24 my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\">6.
