GB News found itself at the centre of a fresh storm this week after a headline-grabbing update about Meghan Markle prompted furious viewers to abandon the channel mid-broadcast \u2014 with many accusing the network of fuelling \u201cpointless Markle obsession.\u201d<\/p>\n

The backlash erupted during the breakfast programme hosted by Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon, when the panel turned its attention to reports that the Duchess of Sussex had allegedly raked in a staggering\u00a0\u00a327 million from selling jam<\/strong>, following the launch of her Netflix lifestyle series\u00a0With Love, Meghan<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What was meant to be a light newspaper discussion quickly spiralled into a flashpoint \u2014 not just over Meghan\u2019s earnings, but over audience fatigue with her continued dominance of headlines.<\/p>\n

Joining the discussion were\u00a0Mail on Sunday<\/em>\u00a0editor-at-large Charlotte Griffiths and dancer AJ Griffiths, who wasted little time casting doubt on the eye-watering figure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a little bit sceptical about that number,\u201d Charlotte said pointedly, raising eyebrows in the studio. \u201cShe gives this image of picking her own strawberries, of being incredibly hands-on.\u201d<\/p>\n

But then came the sting.<\/p>\n

As the scepticism mounted on screen, anger exploded off it.<\/p>\n

GB News\u2019 social media channels were flooded with furious responses from viewers who claimed they had\u00a0immediately switched off<\/strong> once Meghan\u2019s name appeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cOff it goes \u2014 Markle jam again,\u201d one viewer wrote. \u201cI actually thought she was standing there all day making jam herself. The people who bought a million jars must be mad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another fumed: \u201cMore pointless Meghan Markle commentary. I\u2019ll be interested the day she starts selling sticks of Montecito Rock \u2014 stamped \u2018FAKE\u2019 all the way through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others accused the channel of hypocrisy, questioning why GB News continues to cover the Duchess at length while simultaneously criticising her relevance.<\/p>\n

\u201cGB News complain about celebrity nonsense \u2014 then spend airtime talking about Meghan\u2019s jam,\u201d one user snapped. \u201cMake it make sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident reignites a long-running tension between Meghan Markle and large sections of the British viewing public, particularly those who feel oversaturated by stories surrounding her post-royal ventures.<\/p>\n

While Meghan\u2019s supporters argue her business success reflects savvy branding and independence, critics see the coverage as emblematic of celebrity excess \u2014 and media complicity.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s clear is that even a\u00a0jar of jam<\/strong>\u00a0is now enough to divide audiences, spark outrage, and send viewers reaching for the remote.<\/p>\n

For GB News, the message from its audience was blunt:
Mention Meghan \u2014 and we\u2019re gone.<\/strong><\/p>\n
