“The good news is that those tumors are gone from what we can see,” Arroyave shared with cohost Eddie Judge. “The chances of that happening were .001 so that was totally a miracle from God. It’s been inspiring to watch, but it’s such a tough battle that she’s happening to go through.”

Teddi Mellencamp’s Faith Journey

When asked how Mellencamp is staying strong during her cancer battle, Arroyave gave credit to her spiritual side.

“She’s definitely getting closer to her faith,” he revealed. “I love that, and I know that helps. A lot of times, you start to hear God, and you hear God’s voice by reading scripture. One sentence could just speak to you, and if it gives you faith, that’s all you can ask for.”

Edwin Arroyave’s Faith That Teddi Mellencamp Will Be OK

Mellencamp learned just how serious her cancer was nearly three months after announcing her split from Arroyave.

Regardless of their relationship status at the time, Arroyave had faith that the mother of his children would be able to recover.

“I had this unwavering belief and just this conviction,” he explained. “Part of it was I was told it was going to happen beforehand, that Teddi was going to get cured, and I chose to believe it. And I was also told that Teddi’s life is going to get turned upside down before it happened.”

Arroyave recalled a conversation with his mom’s pastor, who said, “‘Hey, it’s gonna be OK. Something’s gonna happen, just remain positive, keep your eye on faith and you’re gonna see how God’s gonna work a miracle.’”

Because of that conversation, Arroyave said he knew Mellencamp was “gonna be all right.”

Edwin Arroyave’s Lessons to His Children During Teddi Mellencamp’s Cancer

As a result of Mellencamp’s illness, Arroyave said he is even more engaged in his children’s school emails and drop-offs.

He also is following the rule that kids learn from the adults in times of difficulty or distress.

“I want my kids to see that no matter what, you show up for your family, and I want them to see that dad was always there no matter what,” he shared. “I also want them to see, like, as they get older, you got to treat your mom with respect. You got to always be there for your mom. You only have one mom.”
