The Kenya Wildlife Service has committed to compensating a man from Siaya County who killed a python after it attacked and killed his dog.
The incident happened on December 29, 2025, in Ugunja Subcounty and later went viral after the man was seen cycling to Sigomere Police Station carrying the remains of both the snake and his dog. The case attracted national attention, prompting KWS officers to visit his home to assess what happened.
Siaya County Senior Warden Grace Kariuki led the team and commended the man for reporting the incident to authorities. She said the visit was meant to support the affected family and begin the compensation process in line with wildlife conflict regulations.
KWS confirmed that the man has been given the required forms to initiate compensation and urged members of the public to report wildlife incidents promptly instead of taking matters into their own hands.
